Retrofit Wall Insulation

Solid masonry walls with lath and plaster linings can be treated by injecting Icynene through holes (8-10mm) drilled in a grid pattern from within the room...the spacings can vary depending on the construction of the wall, but typically on a 600mm X 600mm grid with extra holes around windows and doors to ensure good coverage. If it is not possible to drill holes due to whatever reason we can install longer delivery tubes form the area above, this is a much slower process, and thus more expensive, so we only install this way when hole drilling is not a viable option.

There are of course many different types of wall construction...Poured Concrete, Brick Cavity, Solid Block, Steel Frame, etc. etc., and we can assess the suitability of Icynene when used in non-standard constructions by means of a Condensation Risk Analysis, which will indicate any possible risks of mould growth or interstitial condensation, as well as providing indicative u-values of the final build-up. But beware the myth of u-values...see here.

We can also install Icynene into modern timber frames, where any existing insulation has failed...but first of all any existing insulation will need to be removed. It is worth going to the trouble because Icynene will outperform the existing insulation which is often poorly fitted and may have slumped down, or even be missing altogether!
