Commercial Building Insulation for New Builds and Refurbishments
Commercial buildings often require a different approach to treating domestic properties, often there is a greater emphasis on cost and pay back times. High heating bills can quickly eat into profits, and in some cases trading seasons are cut short because the cost of heating outweighs income. Perishable goods can be lost due to frost or overheating. Machinery can be ruined due to condensation.
Hotels, Guest houses, Restaurants and Shops etc.
These businesses are often located in traditionally built properties, and can benefit from treatment with open cell spray foam insulation in the same way a domestic building can - the same dramatic reductions in heating bills can be gained from using Icynene without any detrimental effects on the fabric of the building. We understand the demands of these businesses, and will work with the business owner and agents to offer a service which causes the least disruption possible; we want you to save money and not lose it while the work is carried out. We have treated restaurants over night when they are closed for business, therefore causing no loss of revenue. If a hotel has a scheduled shut down for maintenance and repair, we will work within that window. We can program works on an area by area, even a room by room basis and as there are minimal obnoxious odours or harmful emissions, with the correct precautions we can work in partly occupied buildings. We work with the business owners and managers to ensure that there is the minimum disruption to business operations.
New Builds and Refurbishments
With New Buildings and Refurbishments, this is the time get it right - it is the responsibility of building designers to build with a strong emphasis on energy efficiency in mind, and not just pay lip service…in the long run the client will reap the benefits. If inferior products or shoddy installations are allowed then the effect on profits can be astonishing. “If only we had done the insulation properly” is of little comfort when all the profits are going to the energy companies. Cheapest is rarely the most cost effective. We will work with designers to produce buildings which cost very little to maintain a comfortable level of heat, and also not get too hot in the summer. We can help with the detailing of junctions around windows and doors etc., to reduce cold-bridging and produce high levels of air tightness. We are seeing some of the big hotel chains now specifying Icynene in their refurbishment programmes. As with all buildings we treat, with Icynene you can rest comfortably knowing you are installing a market leading product which will not degrade over time and will not release any harmful gasses into the air.
Warehouses, Workshops, Storage Sheds, Steel framed and clad buildings
Often the emphasis on this type of building is heat retention to an extent, but more often it is condensation control. One of our surveyors will meet with the building owners and asses what is required from the building and specify a solution. Where the open cell breathable properties of the Icynene classic are not required (steel buildings do not need to breathe like wood and stone buildings do) we would recommend the use of denser closed cell foam. Where there is a risk of impact damage or a washable surface is required then MDR 210 is often the solution, at thicknesses of 30mm it provides excellent condensation control, areas of extreme humidity, such as in aquaculture and agriculture a thicker coating may be required and as with Icynene’s open cell products, the Icynene closed cell products are 100% water blown which means there is no loss if performance over time and it will not degrade - it pays to get it right first time.
